Happy Father's Day

Some of you may not know this about me... The man in the photo above is not my "father" but he is an awesome Dad. When I was 21 months old my (birth) Dad was killed in an automobile accident. It was a very bad accident. He was crossing the railroad tracks. He didn't see or hear the train. He was killed when the train hit his car.... he was on his way to pick me up from my Mom's house. Though I do not remember him, I know that I have his smile, many of his personality traits, and his love of life. I am told he was a very good and kind man. He loved life and he loved me.

When I was 5 (I think) my Mom remarried. She married a man named Michael and he became my Dad. He is an amazing man. I like to think that if my (birth) Dad were picking a man to raise me it would have been Michael. My Mom says that it takes someone special with a special heart to walk into a family that is already established and be a father... it takes someone even better to be a Dad. Michael has supported me, loved me, encouraged me, and raised me. I am so lucky to have him in my life.

Thank you, Michael, for being my Dad, especially because you didn't have to be. I love you! Happy Father's Day!!

Also, a Happy Father's Day wish to my Father- in-law. He is such a generous man and has truly been an amazing help to Jake and me in our first year of marriage with moving and fixing things. Love you, Tim!

Also a special thanks to my H, Jake, for being such a great MilShelb Dad! Love you, Jake!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this. My daddy is my birth dad, but he is not my brother and sister's birth dad. Their birth dad abused them badly, so my mom left him (and saved their lives most likely). She met my daddy and they got married, then they had me. My daddy legally adopted my brother and sister, and he has ALWAYS been daddy to all of us. They have never been my half siblings, they are simply my brother and sister. I think that speaks volumes about the kind of man my daddy is, and your daddy is obviously the same!

I firmly believe that we have such good husbands because we have such good daddies!
